Double Bunny

The Double Bunny uses two rabbit strips — one on top, one on bottom — creating a massive profile that displaces an enormous amount of water with each strip. This pattern triggers the largest fish in any given water, as it represents a substantial meal. The two strips breathe and pulse in opposite directions on the pause, creating realistic living movement. Fish it on a sink-tip line in deep pools targeting large browns and rainbows.

Materials

  • hook: 3X long streamer hook #2–4
  • thread: White or olive 6/0
  • body: Rabbit strip (below) and rabbit strip (above), sandwiching the shank
  • flash: Pearl or gold Flashabou between strips
  • eyes: Lead dumbbell eyes (optional, for jigging action)

Tying steps

  1. Mount a size 2–4 streamer hook; tie in a rabbit strip on the bottom at the bend, skin up.
  2. Tie in another rabbit strip on top at the bend, skin down.
  3. Add 4–6 strands of Flashabou between the two strips.
  4. Bind both rabbit strips along the shank with thread wraps from bend to eye, keeping them aligned top and bottom.
  5. Bring both rabbit strips forward and tie down at the eye — they sandwich the body.
  6. Optionally add lead dumbbell eyes at the 1/4 mark to make the fly ride hook-up.
  7. Build a neat head; whip finish and cement.
  8. Apply UV resin to the thread head and allow to cure; trim any stray rabbit fibers from the body.
