Comparadun
The Comparadun sits low on the water without any hackle, supported only by its flared deer-hair wing. This gives it a drag-free drift that selective fish on spring creeks find impossible to refuse. Match the body color to the hatch — olive for BWOs, yellow for PMDs, cream for Light Cahills. Best fished with a long, fine tippet on smooth currents.

Materials
- hook: Dry fly hook #14–20
- thread: Match body color, 8/0
- tail: Microfibbets or hackle fibers, split
- body: Fine dry fly dubbing to match hatch
- wing: Coastal deer hair, upright half-circle fan
Tying steps
- Mount hook and wrap thread to the bend; tie in two Microfibbets split 45 degrees apart as a split tail.
- Dub a slim tapered body in the appropriate hatch color from bend to the 2/3 mark.
- Cut a generous clump of deer hair, clean underfur, and align tips in a stacker.
- Measure the wing to equal the hook shank length; tie in at 2/3 mark with 4 tight wraps.
- Post wrap at the wing base to flare it into a half-circle fan over the top of the hook.
- Make 5 additional tight wraps at the wing base to lock the fan; trim butts at a diagonal.
- Build a small smooth head from the trimmed butts.
- Whip finish and apply a drop of head cement to the wing base and head.
