Cork Bass Popper
The cork or foam bass popper is one of the most exciting warmwater fly patterns to fish. Its cupped face creates a loud, gurgling pop when stripped, and the splash attracts bass from a surprising distance. Fish it in the early morning and evening near structure — lily pads, docks, fallen trees. Let it sit completely still between strips. Many strikes come in the seconds of stillness, not during the pop.

Materials
- hook: Wide-gap bass hook #1–4
- thread: White or yellow 140-denier
- body: Pre-formed cork or foam popper body (cupped face)
- tail: White or chartreuse marabou
- legs: Barred rubber legs
- flash: Gold or pearl Flashabou
Tying steps
- Attach a wide-gap hook to a pre-formed cork or foam popper body using a hook keeper loop.
- Start thread behind the popper body; tie in a full marabou tail with rubber legs.
- Tie in 4–6 strands of Flashabou alongside the tail.
- Attach rubber legs around the popper body at the midpoint.
- Paint the popper body in bright colors (chartreuse, white, yellow) with a painted eye.
- Seal the painted body with epoxy or UV resin for durability.
- Whip finish the thread and apply head cement.
- Paint eyes on the popper face and seal with a coat of epoxy for a durable finish.
